[WR #02] Steal My Business Strategy - How to Scale Without Sacrifice

“There’s so much potential to scale this business… but how can we? We're at max capacity already.”

I hear this from purpose-driven founders ALL the time. They look around at the successful business they've built, at the ways they've been able to generate revenue so fast, and at how effectively they're delivering on what they do, and they think, "Man, we should be growing!" But they're worried that they'll need to sacrifice something- like profit, revenue, or time - in order to do it.

They feel like they couldn't possibly add on any more activities to their already full plates, and at the same time they don't know what they could let go of so they can make room to scale.

"We need more revenue so we can hire, but... we need that new team member here NOW in order to be able to do the things we need to do to generate that revenue."

"We're already so busy... how can we possibly scaleup without having to work 24/7/365?"

"If we take on any more work now, our client experience and impact will definitely suffer - we don't want to risk that, or the potential loss in revenue that could cause..."

So rather than make those sacrifices, they stay stuck at that plateau crossing their fingers that “someday” they’ll figure out how to scale.

Does this feel at all familiar? (It’s okay to say “YES!”)

I love (LOVE) finding founders when they're in this place; this scaling chicken / egg conundrum.

Without fail, the moment my strategic consulting clients and I begin to unpack their business model I instantly see opportunities for them to scale - and without having to sacrifice anything that matters to them.

In fact, from my outside-the-company, 50,000 foot perspective, right away I'm able to spot the fastest, easiest, and most enjoyable path to even better results for them.

And inevitably they tell me they could never have seen what I've found for them because they're too close to it.

My brain also happens to do this automagically :)

Now, if you don't have a GPS-Brain like I do, not to worry...

There are THREE specific levers I'm looking for when I'm spotting opportunities for founders to scale their purpose-driven businesses - and you can use them too.

As a bonus, they’re easy to remember and fun to say. Try em’ out yourself!

Lever #1 - AMPLIFY:

The first thing we’re looking for is leverage. Where are the opportunities that exist either within the business model or within your activities and incoming opportunities that will AMPLIFY growth quickly and more easily? Targets I'm looking for specifically are things like partnerships, network connections, and untapped market opportunities. What might yours be?

Lever #2 - UNIFY:

Once we know where we can Amplify growth, now we set out to align your values with your activities. When values and activities UNIFY, they become more fun to do and create less drag, instantly freeing up capacity you didn't even know you had. A great example of this would be spending loads of time, energy, and money creating a complex automated email marketing strategy, when fostering deep personal relationships with clients is a value. Those things don’t exactly match up, which means results likely won’t either. Where do you know already your activities aren’t lining up with your values?

Lever #3 - SIMPLIFY:

Now that we're breathing a little easier with our Unified activities all lined up, it's time to get lean. We look at the existing business model and opportunities one last time and assess what's working and what's not. Then we SIMPLIFY by releasing the drag and optimizing what's humming so you can get a jolt of rocket fuel in your model and get even better results more quickly. What’s one thing you know would help you 10x results if you had capacity to focus on making it just a little bit better?

1, 2, 3, seems straightforward, right?

That’s because it is!

Business doesn’t have to be - and, frankly, shouldn’t be - as complicated as we often make it.

And... it can also be tricky to see your own forest for the trees.

If you suspect that you’re too close to your stuff, or too in the weeds to figure this out on your own, let’s talk.

My signature Opportunity Assessment walks us through this exact process together so you can leave with a simpler, more enjoyable business model, and a bespoke, easy to execute strategy for scaling.
